LORD, you have searched me and known me;
you know my sitting down and rising up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
Psalm 139:1 BCP
Recently, my husband and I retreated to the mountains of North Carolina. We needed time to rest and get away to a quiet place.
We took leisurely day trips to Blowing Rock and Boone, and cruised the winding roads of The Blue Ridge Parkway, making frequent stops at breathtaking overlooks.
Heights make me a bit squeamish, but I'd venture as close to the edge as I dared while clutching my husband's arm.
Autumn stole the show with its patchwork quilt of fall colors gently spread over the mountains. We stood in awe of God's majestic handiwork.
Standing high above the mountains looking down upon the peaks and valleys in the afternoon sun, I realized how very small I felt compared to the grandeur of the view.
Days later, we returned home refreshed. Still in the afterglow of our mountaintop experience, a poem etched itself in my memory. . .
Somewhere in time
on a small planet spinning
through space, I make a life,
a fragile fingerprint of love.
God's life shining through mine,
Light pierces darkness
from heaven to my heart
a message of hope.
Somewhere in time
this day
this life
matters ...
for all eternity.
Wishing you days to enjoy autumn's beauty.
All Gifts by Grace,
Barbara
